Questions about writing and editing

Where do you get your ideas (especially the sex!)?

My brain is a weird place…I make almost everything up. Sure, real life inspires some stuff, but it is more fragments of reality season the recipe for a book rather than real life being the steak, so to speak. As to the sexy bits? Almost entirely fiction. I only wish some those parts were true, heehee.

When did you start writing? What inspired you to try?

I think I was about nine when I wrote my first story. I remember hearing my cousin tapping away on his typewriter and I often imagined what stories I might tell if I ever got a typewriter. Later, I traded a spiral bound notebook back and forth with my pal, Trishie, in the halls of our high school. My first stories mostly were fanfic of McKinley’s Damar, although none have or ever will be published.

How long does it take to write a book?

Depends on the book. Some gush out as fast as my fingers can move and I lose sleep because I can’t stop thinking the story until I manage to finish the first draft. Others come out so slowly, it feels almost painful to sit down to hunt and peck for words.

Where do you write? What program/software do you use?

Mostly in my office, a treehouse like hayloft above my home. The view is outstanding, the coffee never-ending, and it is probably my favorite place in the world.

Microsoft Word

Can you write this story idea I have? Can you edit this book I wrote? Could you read this thing I wrote?

No, sorry. I have a hard time finding the time to write all the ideas I have. As for editing, I only edit for a select few houses/authors and am not accepting new clients. Sorry!

I wish I could read your story, but sadly I have a hard time making time for books on my tbr…But there are a lot of websites/social media groups for finding crit partners. Best of luck on your writing adventure!

Who is your agent? Editor?

I am not currently represented by an agent. I have a few editors, at least one per house depending on which publisher we’re discussing. Each is given credit at the beginning of the book and I’ve learned things from all the editors I’ve worked with over the years. I can’t thank them enough, sincerely.

Who is your publisher?

At the time of me writing this, I’m working with the following houses (in alphabetical order):

Carnal Passions |Decadent Publishing |Ellora's Cave | Entangled Publishing |Evernight Publishing |Fated Desires Publishing MuseItUp Publishing|Samhain Publishing |Self-Published/Indie

How much does it cost to write a book, anyway?

I wrote a blog about that which you can read here.
